Does The Tongue Puncher work on walls with insulation?

Under Australian residential building/compliance standards, internal walls are not required to have insulation, and most internal walls do not include it unless specifically designed for thermal zoning or soundproofing (both of which are uncommon).

In uninsulated walls, the COB LED provides clear visibility of the tool and cutout from the top plate, giving you a bright target to aim your yellow tongue at for smooth and efficient installation.

In insulated walls, the product's effectiveness may be reduced.

Does The Tongue Puncher fit inside stud brackets?

No, the Tongue Puncher 90mm LITE is designed for 90mm wide x 50mm high wall cutouts.

Its larger size maximizes the yellow-tongue deflecting surface, providing the best chance to hit the target but making it too large to fit within a stud bracket.

Can The Tongue Puncher be used on wall cavities deeper (or shallower) than 90mm?

The Tongue Puncher 90mm LITE is purpose-built for 90mm wall cavities.
  • For deeper cavities: The tool will not seat properly, as the rear spikes will lack a surface to press against.
  • For shallower cavities: The tool will not seat as intended, as the front grips will not engage.
For optimal performance, use the Tongue Puncher in 90mm wall cavities.

Can The Tongue Puncher be used on walls with plasterboard thicker than 10mm?

The Tongue Puncher 90mm LITE is purpose-built for 10mm plasterboard.
For walls with plasterboard thicker than 10mm, the tool will not seat as designed.

Noggins are common in most internal walls, with older builds often having full-width 90mm noggins and more modern homes likely using 70mm noggins.

This is where the Tongue Puncher’s COB LED proves its value. The bright light shines through the gaps between the noggin and plasterboard, providing a clear target for your yellow tongue.

If you encounter a full 90mm noggin, the light can help you pinpoint the ideal spot to drill, ensuring a direct line for the yellow tongue to pass through to the cutout. This reduces the need for hook wires and simplifies the process.
